Microsoft has now released the year-end update for GP Version 2013, 2015, and 2016. The major release of GP 2018 is now available, and all Canadian Payroll year-end updates should be released mid-to-late December. Links to the updates are listed in the step-by-step guide below.

Per our usual recommendations, please contact Tridea Partners Support prior to installing this update or any service packs. We request that you do not install the update prior to receiving confirmation that your customizations and companion products are compatible. This confirmation will come from Tridea Partners.

All users will need to be out of GP during the update. The update will need to be installed on every workstation or server where GP is installed locally.

After the update is installed, we recommend copying your live company data into a test company and running through a payroll check process and a payables check process in the test company to be sure everything processes properly. (We do not anticipate any issues, but this is always a good idea after an update.)

Please contact Tridea if you’d like to schedule our assistance with this update or your year-end processes.

For our GP Payroll Customers Only:

Our recommendation is to install this update just after you have completed payroll in the upcoming weeks, to allow lead time before deadlines for your next check process. (For US, the year-end update can be installed at any time after companion products are compatible… you do not need to wait until all 2017 payrolls are completed. (For Canada, the Canadian Payroll year-end update needs to be installed after all 2017 payrolls have been processed, and prior to 2018 payrolls being processed.)

Step 1: Determine whether you need to install the year-end update.

Installing the year-end update is required if you are:

  • Using GP HR features for Affordable Care Act (ACA) & producing 1095-C reports from GP
  • Creating Payroll Electronic EFW2 file from GP
  • Using Fixed Assets module for luxury auto depreciation
  • Using Canadian Payroll. (Wait for the Canadian Payroll year-end update to be released mid-to-late December, which is all inclusive of U.S. changes as well.)

It is optional to install this service pack if you are:

  • Not using GP Electronic Filing or using a companion product to create the EFW2 file
  • Not required to produce 1095-C reports or you are using a companion product to GP for ACA reporting
  • Not using Fixed Assets module for luxury auto depreciation

Changes in the year-end update are all-inclusive of all prior releases of Microsoft Dynamics GP. The year-end update addresses:

  1. Payroll Magnetic Media EFW2 file changes
  2. Affordable Care Act updates and Form 1095-C changes
  3. Fixed Asset luxury auto depreciation changes
  4. Product Quality Fixes around Payroll Year-End and all Microsoft Dynamics GP modules
  5. No W-2 or W-3 Form changes
  6. No 1099-MISC form and application changes

Checking Your GP Version

If you are not sure of your Dynamics GP version, you can check the version under Help (blue question mark in the upper right-hand corner of the GP system). Go to the About Microsoft Dynamics GP option. Your version number will be listed on the right, middle section of the window.

Your version will also appear in the lower left corner of your main login screen when GP is launched.
